About the collective TILT

The collective TILT has come together with the idea of creating a series of performative movement possibilities that can only be achieved with the help of prosthetics. In contrast to medical/ orthopedic prosthetics, the body extensions developed for the performance serve to create new, non-normative means of expression. The name "TILT" refers, on one hand, to the sudden, temporary halt of a system, which can apply to the human nervous system as well as to pinball machines, and on the other hand, to the tipping moment when an object or body tilts, breaks, or falls. "Tilting" thus suggests an imbalance, object autonomy, and a change of perspective. We are motivated by sensory experiences through technical interventions and the autonomy that arises from the performative transformation of our own bodies. We encourage a critical exploration of the limitations and range of actions of the human body. Society continuously produces ideal body paradigms, perceiving certain boundaries of the body as natural and categorizing others as disabilities. We aim to challenge this general perception through a performative "disable-enable-highly-able game."

The choreographies of TILT are based on the physical and societal experiences of Tamara Rettenmund, who has continued her career in dance and performance despite physical challenges such as multiple sclerosis and injury-related limitations. At TILT, she is the one who choreographs and performs the productions. She holds degrees in performing arts and dance. Since 1998, she has been conceptualizing and directing dance and theater pieces, as well as theatrical interventions. The concepts are written by Türe Zeybek. She also researches the technical possibilities of body extensions, develops and applies them. She takes responsibility for the materials and functionality of the prosthetics with which Tamara Rettenmund dances. After completing degrees in fine arts, Türe Zeybek has dedicated her life to various artistic disciplines, including scenography, sculpture, and ceramics. The two artists completed their master's studies together and have known each other since 2010.
